Benefits of dancing

One of the fun ways to lose weight is to dance. Plenty of people get their weekly dose out of the way in clubs over the weekend. However, if you really want to shift some pounds, dance should be seriously considered as a part of your exercise regime.

The popularity of games like Dance Central and Just Dance on the Xbox 360 and Wii are a good indicator of how much people enjoy dance as a means to lose weight. It is a great and active alternative to a Cheeky Bingo game or a trip to the salon, which do not require too much energy to enjoy.

Some benefits of dance are:

Calorie burning – Depending on how upbeat and what dance moves you are doing, a mere half an hour of dance can burn off more than 200 calories. Well, unless you are dancing slowly.

Coordination – A lot of dance requires you to learn a lot of different steps. Practise not only helps your memory, but also improves your coordination, connecting the dance moves up one by one. The more you dance, the easier it becomes to move your body in the way you intend.

Endurance – When you dance for an extended period of time, your heart rate will pick up. If you continue to dance for a long stretch of time, your endurance will increase week by week, overall having an extremely positive effect on your cardiovascular capabilities.

Fun – Dancing, once you get over any self conscious doubts, is a really fun and lifts your mood. Well, unless you are competing, in which case you will be nervous as well. It is a great way to reduce stress after a hard day or week, keeping you in an upbeat positive state of mind.
