History of The Nightclub Two Step Dance
Have you ever been at an event where a slow song comes on and people come out with their dance partners and start to slowly dance, back and forth? Have you ever wondered if there were proper steps for this kind of dance? These slow, romantic ballads are played everywhere – starting at awkward Jr. High dances, to weddings and nightclubs.
The problem with these ballads is that they are too slow for traditional ballroom dances. Every ballroom dance has a particular rhythm for it, and many of these ballads do not prescribe to the traditional rhythms. So, swaying back and forth, circling round and round it is. Or is it?
Around thirty years ago, a dance was created for these types of songs. It is the Nightclub Two Step. This should not be confused with the Country Two Step which is an entirely different dance. Think of the song, “The Lady in Red” and you’ve got the type of song that the Nightclub Two Step is particularly good for.
So, how did this dance come about? It was originally created in California by Buddy Schwimmer. Schwimmer had been dancing a line dance with his friends call the Surfer Stomp, that was set to fast music. When he tried to do the steps to a slower song, it just didn’t work. He ended up double-timing the steps and that worked with the slower music. He would take two steps with his left foot and then he would take two steps with his right foot – Two Step was born.
However, it was just something that Schwimmer and his friends would do as a dance. Schwimmer and his dance partner won over 2000 competitions at nightclubs, and people were begging him to teach them. Finally, he opened a dance studio and began to teach his dance.
This dance was born out of a line dance and not subject to the formal dance frame of traditional ballroom dances. The couple can drop their elbows and not look so formal out on the dance floor, while still doing a cool dance. It is well suited for the nightclub dance scene because it doesn’t take up much space – Nightclub Two Step was now in place.
The Nightclub Two Step can be danced in a variety of different events. Weddings are a particularly great place to show off two step skills. It doesn’t have to be formal, but it looks like you’re a star when you dance it. Dancing this as a First Dance when all eyes are on you is a particularly good way to show off. It’s also great because so many modern songs can be danced to the Nightclub Two Step.
If you’ve never heard of the Nightclub Two Step, it may not be popular in your neck of the woods yet. Learn it and WOW everyone with your style and grace!

Try asking your teacher heaps of questions. Ask your teacher to go over any bits that your unsure of. Remember that your teacher wants you to dance well. They’ll be happy to answer any possible questions that you might have.
If your too embarrassed to ask in front of the class you can ask during a break or after class. Ask about technique because that generally helps you improve your dancing overall.
Concentrate on looking at their stomachs, legs, and hips area as well.

Exactly what I was looking for,
This is my second hip-hop instructional video purchase, and the first that delivered what it promised. Rather than featuring stage dancers who tell you the most important thing is to feel the groove, it features club-going dancers who break down simple club moves (like grinding and side-stepping) into almost idiot-proof steps. They demonstrate these from multiple angles, speed them up, and then have ladies come out onto the dance floor to show what the interaction might be like when you are doing this move at the club. It would have been nice if some of the moves were even more idiot proof, but careful repeat viewings of instructions do the trick.
As a bonus, there are interview segments where “real girls” talk about what they are looking for in a guy at the club, along with do’s and don’ts. The advice is generally good, and it is clear that these are women who spend a lot of time at clubs. I do feel that they could have found more attractive women to give this same advice.
The day I wanted to go out, I opened the video up, and watched and practiced a few moves, getting the basic feel for them. When I went to the club, I was stunned by how simply most people dance. Girls who I was afraid to dance with before were more approachable, because it was clear that they have pretty much no idea what they’re doing! My rudimentary skills gotten from one hour of practice were enough to give me the confidence to go out there. I believe that whether or not that is true for you or your scene, this video has enough to make you comfortable provided you practice it.
Overall, if you’re shy and avoiding the clubs because you feel like you can’t dance, this video is exactly right for you.

|Extremely effective,
I’ve been a dance instructor for over 10 years and currently own two dance studios. I often buy instructional dance dvds to compare my teaching style and expand my classrooms. Hip Hop Moves for The Club did an exceptional job of screening the best beginners moves one can find in a club. The instructors did a great job of isolating the most important part of every move and explaining it in such a way that every beginner can understand and follow. The instructors also did an excellent job of building upon each move to show different styles and provide suggestions for every body part. In teaching moves that involved feet for example, they never forgot to explain what you should be doing with your hands and upper body. The video itself was in tune with most other instructional videos in the genre – it too had different angles, especially close-ups and shots from the back. I think what I enjoyed most about this product was its refreshing approach to an age old question on how to dance. This DVD teaches moves that are specific to nightclubs and the modern style of dancing. I will certainly recommend this product to my beginners class.
